SOLUTIONS TO HELP RESTORE YOUR IDENTITY

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing types of fraud across North America. In the unfortunate event you become a victim of this terrible crime, IDefence can save you a lot of time, money and aggravation by setting you up with a qualified fraud investigative team that will work with you through the identity restoration process.

GUIDED RESTORATION

If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, Talk to an Expert. We'll conduct a quick interview to capture the essential details of your particular situation and you'll be connected with a dedicated Fraud Investigator who will assume overall responsibility for working with you through the restoration process. We'll provide:

 
  • Assistance in confirming that an identity theft event has occurred and the nature of the fraud
 
  • Assistance in organizing details of the issues and a thorough explanation of the process to be undertaken and your responsibilities
 
  • An explanation of your rights as a victim
 
  • Assistance in reading and understanding the contents of any credit reports
 
  • Assistance in gathering and completing paperwork, including police reports
 
  • Delivery of a personalized Identity Theft Package. In addition to providing an explanation of the package contents and a list of key contact numbers, we'll provide details of what to do with the paperwork we've included and where it should be sent. We'll even provide pre-addressed envelopes!
 
  • Ongoing follow-up and consultative advice throughout the restoration process...until you're satisfied that the restoration process is complete
 
  • We also offer a Limited Power of Attorney option for customers who prefer to leave more of the paperwork to us
RESTORATION WITH LIMITED POWER OF ATTORNEY

During your initial interview with our specialists, you'll be given an option to sign a Limited Power of Attorney (LPoA). While various types of personal identity restoration such as a driver's licence) and/or various types of financial identity restorations obligate you to personally attend to these matters, a signed LPoA will allow us to work directly with most creditors and other agencies on your behalf. In addition to the assistance described above, we'll be able to:

 
  • Issue fraud alerts to the national credit bureaus (Equifax and TransUnion) on your behalf and work with these agencies to restore credit accuracy
 
  • Liaise with where possible officials of government offices, creditors, and financial institutions on your behalf to dispute fraudulent accounts
RESOURCE CENTRE

If you prefer to manage the restoration process yourself, you can still draw upon our experts as a resource. Be sure to visit the IDefence Resource Centre to obtain essential identity restoration tool kits. Available for immediate download, these tool kits include an activity journal for tracking your required activities and an ID Theft Statement form from the Consumer Measures Committee that you can use to report any identity theft activity against you. The Resource Centre also contains a library of information on identity theft and links to provincial and federal agencies that are available to assist.

REPLACEMENT CHEQUES

If one or more of your bank accounts has to be closed as a result of identity theft, IDefence representatives will undertake the following actions:
